Mildred Nash, 91, died Thursday evening, June 26, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Indiahoma, Okla., to Willie and Alex Key.

The oldest of nine children, she graduated from Hagerman High School in 1930. She married Leon Nash on Sept. 12, 1934, and lived in Morton, Texas, and Lamar, Colo., before settling in Floyd in 1942. They moved 11 years ago to Clovis. For 45 years she was the weekly Floyd columnist for the Portales News-Tribune. She was a farmer’s wife and mother who served as a substitute teacher during World War II. She was active in the Floyd Methodist Church as long as she lived there, serving as a member and officer of the Women’s Society of Christian Service in Floyd until it disbanded in 1971.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Richard and Malcolm Key; and four sisters, Marion Main, Doris Jackson, Kova Key and Roberta Key.

Survivors include her husband, Leon Nash of Clovis; two sons, Jerry (and wife, Carol) Nash of Clovis and David Nash of Floyd; a daughter, Elaine (and husband, Jon) Putnam-Nash of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Lex Key of Kenniwick, Wash.; a sister, Maxine Payton of Hobbs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Beth Anderson will officiate the services , assisted by the Rev. Mary Sue Hull.

Burial was at Floyd Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Justin and Tammy Nash, Gavin Nash, Dawn and Mark Witten, Lacee and Josh Ratcliff, Jerrilynn and Terry Blocker, Jenelle Nash, Honor Nash-Putnam and Keyton Nash Putnam.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Methodist Church.
