Mr. James Edward “J.J.” Jackson, 70, of Clovis, a car salesman, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

He was born on June 26, 1933, in Post, Texas, to Charles and Addie Gray Jackson.

He played football for the Carlsbad Cavemen and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1952. He married Sharon Goodin on Dec. 3, 1952, in Carlsbad. He served in the U.S. Air Force for one year. He was a car salesman for Doc Stewart from 1970 until 1995. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and a member of the Clovis/Portales Elks Lodge No. 1244 for 33 years where he served as exalted ruler from 1973-1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant daughter.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Mike Jackson of Roswell, Phillip Jackson of Lubbock and Richard Jackson of Clovis; a daughter, Sandra Reid of Clovis; a brother, Wayne Jackson of Hewitt, Texas; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.

Dean Turvaville will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Sunset Terrace in Farwell.

Pallbearers will be Dick Burke, Tom Dane, Ken Cogburn, Don Tinsley, Jerry Cryer and Jerry Sparks.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Muffley coffee club and all employees of the former Doc Stewart Chevrolet Buick Inc.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Childrens Home, P.O. Box 629, Portales 88130.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
