Ms. Mae Heflin, 80, of Portales, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born Sept. 9, 1922, in Salano, to Edna and W.H. Heflin.
She had been a resident of Portales for more than 70 years. She worked at Heflin Lumber Yard, where she hung wallpaper in houses. She worked on the family farm, driving the hay truck or baling and stacking hay. She drove a school bus for more than 30 years and she was a licensed beautician. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Friendship Homemakers Club. Family members said her hobbies included ceramics.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, W.G. and Gerald Heflin; and three sisters, Lil Simpson, Opal Massey and Vernie “Pickle” Trapp.
He is survived by a son, Bud Miller (and wife, Barbara) of Portales; a daughter, Margaret Brake (and husband, Kenneth) of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, George A. Heflin of Littlefield, Texas; a sister, Nancy Jo Brown of Clovis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family members will officiate the services.
