Zias pick up program's first win

PLAINVIEW, Texas — Freshman midfielder Anna Funk scored a pair of goals Saturday as Eastern New Mexico University’s first-year women’s soccer program claimed its first win by blanking Wayland Baptist 4-0.

Funk scored an unassisted goal near the end of the first half to put the Zias (1-2) in front. She added another unassisted goal in the 73rd minute, making it 3-0.

The Zias got their second goal early in the second half when a WBU player knocked the ball into the Pioneers’ own net. The final goal was scored by Kara Williams in the 82nd minute, on an assist by Sarah Sanchez.

Carolyn Vincent recorded the shutout in goal for the Zias. ENMU had a 13-3 advantage in shot attempts over the Pioneers (0-3).
