Loretta Looper, 56
Mrs. Loretta Looper, 56, of Portales, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at her home.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1946, in Tucumcari, to Mary and Sam W. Beck.
She grew up in Tucumcari. She moved to Belen in 1964 and was a 1966 graduate of Belen High School. She married John Looper on July 17, 1965, in Belen. The couple made their home in Belen until 1972 when they moved to Portales. In 1989, she established the Portales Massage Clinic, which she operated until retiring in 1999. She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church. Family members said she enjoyed being outdoors, bowling and spending time loving her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the Women’s international Bowling Association.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carroll, Royce and Gayle Beck, as well as by her parents.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Shawna McGill (and husband, Dent) and Frances Moore (Michael), all of Portales and Johnanna Preston (Todd) of Clovis; four grandchildren, Joshua and Shalea Moore and John-Hayden and Haylee McGill; six sisters, Geraldine Cherry of Farmington, Charlotte Wilson of Amarillo, Maxine Wilson of Bardwell, Ky., Geneva Barrett of Alma, Mich., Nadine Angel and Dyan Beck, both of Tucumcari; three brothers, Darryle Beck of Prescott, Ariz., Charlie Beck of Andrews, Texas, and Ross Beck of Texas;
The Rev. James Fogg officiated the services.
Burial was at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dent and John-Hayden McGill, Todd Preston, Michael and Joshua Moore and Ralph Bergsieker.
Arrangements were by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Services have been held.
Jim Robbins, 82
Mr. Jim Robbins, 82, of Earth, Texas, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in Amarillo.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1920, in Sweetwater, Texas.
He married Kathryn Louise Coe on Nov. 23, 1946, in Portales. He moved to Earth, Texas, in January of 1962 from Slaton, Texas. He was a truck driver and a Baptist. He was a member of the VFW No. 3280 in Clovis, Independent Order of Oddfellows and Woodmen of the World. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Earth Fire Department for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Wayne Robbins of Smyer, Texas, Jimmy Robbins of Pampa, Texas, and Johnny Robbins of Amarillo; two daughters, Patti Ray of Pampa, Texas, and Lynda Wright of Clovis; eight grandchildren, Bobbi, Kerri, Kandi, Kelsey, Holliana, Hunter, Michael and Cody; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Ivey of Bracketville, Texas.
The Rev. Bobby Broyles officiated the services.
Burial was Thursday at Portales Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospice, 1600 Wallace Boulevard, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
Arrangements were by Parsons-Ellis Funeral Home of Earth, Texas. Services have been held.
Jimmy Wall, 60
Mr. Jimmy R. Wall, 60, of Dora, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1943, in Atlanta, Texas, to Ivy and Earlton Wall.
He graduated from Three Way High School in 1961 in Maple, Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge he farmed in the Lazbuddie area then moved to Dora in 1973. He served on the Dora School Board from 1986 until 1991. He was a member of the Dora Baptist Church and served on the Dora Fire Department for 12 years. He married Jolene Dorman on June 9, 1995. Shortly after their marriage they purchased the Dora Café. For the last several months of his life he was employed in the environmental compliance services industry.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Bill Wall; and by his wife, Jolene.
He is survived by his partner, Wanda Reed of Clovis; two sons, James Wall (and wife, Tina) of Dora and Houston Wall (Emilie) of Causey; a step-son, Rex Minshew of Dora; a daughter, Ladean Rowe of Lubbock; a step-daughter, Nita Richards (Gene) of Dora; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother; and two sisters, Elizabeth Oglesby of Goldsmith, Texas, and Juanita Woolam of Lubbock.
The Rev. Eddy Mardis will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Mount Zion Cemetery in Dora.
Pallbearers will be Monty and Terry Oglesby, Stanley Woolam, Ruben Baeza, Jerry Skinner and Benny Carty.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Prater and Donnie Romero and the Dora Volunteer Fire Department.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dora Baptist Church.
