Sherrie Bettenhausen, 47
Dr. Sherrie Bettenhausen, 47, of Charleston, S.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
She was born on March 14, 1956, in Williston, N.D., to Odean and Lorraine Eliassen Bendixson.
She was a 1974 high school graduate. She began her college teaching profession at Eastern New Mexico University before moving to Charleston, S.C., to take a position as an Associate Professor of Special Education with the college of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She is survived by a son, Mitchell Betternhausen of Charleston, S.C.; her parents; a brother, Miles Bendixson (and wife, Jackie) and their sons, Ted and Mike of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a sister, Hollie Emter (Dale) and their children, Kevin and Kayla; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Rev. Tim Swenson will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Schafer Cemetery in Watford City, N.D.
Arrangements are by Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City, N.D. Services are at 2 p.m. (CDT) today at First Lutheran Church in Watford City, N.D.
Ross Creamer, 82
Mr. A. Ross Creamer, 82, of Portales, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Baylor Hospital in Garland, Texas.
He was born on July 21, 1921, in Dickens, Texas, to Joseph Wesley and Winnie Battle Creamer.
He married Marie South on Feb. 2, 1941, in Portales. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. He landed at Normandy on D-Day and served in the US Army’s 28th Division known as the “Bloody Buckets.” He worked for 45 years in the wholesale and retail dry goods business. He served and became friends with many clothing and fabric retailers across the southwest. He was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edith Hayter and Doris Porter.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Kathryn Long of San Angelo, Texas, Marcy James (and husband, Walt) of Garland, Texas, Teri Glisson (Dale) of Lavon, Texas and Melissa Blair (Cleve) of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Joe Long of Lubbock, Lisa Velasquez of Canyon, Texas, Chris Long of San Angelo, Texas, and Mike and Sarah James, both of Garland, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Daynan Ross Romero and Katrina Long; two brothers, Keith Creamer of Wilcox, Ariz., and Loyd Creamer of Lubbock; two sisters, Jo Nelle Jordan of Los Lunas and Beth Sikes of Lubbock; 23 nieces and nephews.
Philip Fike will officiate the services with the assistance of Dale Glisson.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eldin Cooper, Winston Berry, Larry Teal, Charlie Crane, Melvin Littlejohn and Edward Lee Miller.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Portales.
Adelene Gras, 81
Mrs. Adelene Gras, 81, of Portales, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Retirement Ranch in Clovis.
She was born on Oct. 30, 1921, in Yorktown, Texas, to Marie and Emil B. Storch.
She married Herman F. Gras on June 23, 1942, in Yorktown, Texas. They moved to a farm near Portales in 1949. She helped operate the farm. She was employed at the Breshears Peanut Mill and at the Portales High School Cafeteria. She later was a representative for Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clovis. Family members said she enjoyed playing Canasta, doing yard work and keeping a pretty flower and rose garden. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Henry, Benny, Alfred, Willie and Edmond Storch; two sisters, Anna Esch and Marlene Storch; and her husband.
She is survived by two sons, Herman Gras of Portales and Bobby Gras of Levelland, Texas; a daughter, Mary LeClear of Clovis; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Emil Storch of Levelland, Texas, and Melvin Storch of Portales; and two sisters, Hilda Smith of Portales and Helen Eastman of Levelland, Texas.
The Rev. Tom Wilson will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ricky, Eugene “Junior,” Randy and Brian LeClear, Dan Kennedy and Randal Burnett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin and Emil Storch and Butch Lea and all the remaining family members.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.
Lynn Roberts, 59
Lynn Hyatt Roberts, 59, of Artesia, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Las Cruces Nursing Center.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1943, in Fresno, Calif., to Vernon and Wanda Hyatt.
She went to elementary school in Portales and graduated from high school in Las Cruces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Duane; and a sister, Sharon.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Roberts; a son, Randall Marks; a daughter, Christina Larson; two sisters, Nena Robbins and Donna Messick; a brother, Danny; and two grandchildren, Timothy and Ethan Larson.
Arrangements are by Graham Mortuary of Las Cruces. Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Temple Church in Portales.
