Alfredo Lucero Jr., 82, of Fort Sumner, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1920, in Valdez Bluff.

He attended school in Fort Sumner. He served with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on Nov. 24, 1945, with citations including the American Theater, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He returned to Fort Sumner where he worked as a lineman for the R.E.A. Farmers Electric Cooperative. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Audon, Frank and Santiago Lucero; and a sister, Vicenta Aragon.

He is survived by two daughters, Felipa Lucero and Teresa Marshall (and husband, Keith) of Fort Sumner; five sons, Nick J. Lucero and Agapito M. Lucero (and wife, Margaret), Ruben Lucero (and wife, Jody) and Simon Lucero (and wife, Tammy), all of Fort Sumner and Gabriel Lucero (and wife, Sis) of Grand Junction, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jake Lucero of Fort Sumner; four sisters, Santana Coronado of Roswell, Jessie Martinez, Lela Madrid and Rebecca Lopez, all of Fort Sumner; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Father Sotero A. Sena will officiate the services.

Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Fort Sumner.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Michael, Rudy, Gregg, Agapito Jr., Robert, James, and Nick Lucero Jr., Bryan and Jessie Marshall.
