Mrs. Marjorie Doris Hood Pena, 76, of Clovis, a retired school teacher, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at her home.

She was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Byers, Texas.

She received a bachelor’s degree in music from Highlands University and a master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University. She was a music teacher for 44 years, retiring in 1990. She taught in Clovis schools from 1957 to 1990, including Parkview, Sandia, Zia and Lincoln-Jackson elementary schools and was choral director at Gattis Junior High School for 25 years. She had been a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church since 1957, singing and directing in the church choir, playing the piano and organ and participating in the handbell choir. She served as treasurer, vice president and president of Plains Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, working in day surgery and sponsoring candy stripers. Family members said she loved music, reading, sewing and friends, and was a supportive and loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Loraine Sigler Hood.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Pemberton of Gallup; a son, Anthony Pena of Nashville, Tenn.; and a grandson, Aaron Pemberton of Gallup.

The Rev. Brad Reeves will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dean Turvaville, Lance Windle, Joel Butler, Raymond Mondragon, Buddy Adrian and Randy Adrian.

Memorial contributions may be made to Plains Regional Medical Center Hospice, 1600 W. 21st St., Clovis, NM 88101.
