Commission to discuss investment committee

The Clovis city commission will consider a request by City Manager Ray Mondragon to make adjustments to the city’s investment committee and a request by a resident to extend a chain link fence into city right of way at its regular meeting at 5:15 p.m. tonight in the Clovis-Carter Library North Annex.

The investments committee meets quarterly to oversee the city’s investments. It’s now composed of the mayor, the city manager, the city finance director and two commissioners.

The proposed changes are to switch the city manager’s role from that of a voting member to a non-voting member and to add one more city commissioner as a voting member. The assistant city manager and the assistant city finance director also would be added as non-voting members.

In addition, meeting times would be changed from the afternoon to the morning to make it more convenient for members to attend, Mondragon said.

City resident Maurine Thomas has asked to extend a four-foot tall chain link fence into the city right of way at 400 Hickory St.

On the commission’s consent agenda, a list of items approved without discussion is a request to issue a request for proposals for architectural and design services for a Clovis civic center.

City Director of Inspections Marcus Brice said his department will not bring a request for an order to secure a mobile home park at 1501 North Martin Luther King Blvd. before the commission, because City Attorney Dave Richards is studying the city’s legal options in the matter.
