Abandoned baby remains hospitalized

An 8-month-old baby girl found abandoned Saturday afternoon and suffering from dehydration and malnutrition remained in critical condition Sunday evening at a Lubbock hospital, police said.

But Clovis Police Sgt. Rich Johnson said emergency room medical personnel at University Medical Center reported they were able to get the baby hydrated and in more stable condition.

The baby was found in a travel trailer outside a relative’s residence in south Clovis.

Her mother, Myrena Rodriguez, 18, remained in custody Sunday night at the Curry County Adult Detention Center, where her bond is set at $11,000.

Rodriguez is charged with felony abandonment or abuse of a child and obstruction of reporting or investigation of child abuse or neglect.
