The Clovis High Wildcats bolted to an 11-0 lead through four innings Monday night and cruised past Levelland 12-6 in the first game of a scheduled West Texas Baseball League doubleheader at Bell Park.
The second game of the twin bill was canceled by rain and lightning in the top of the fourth inning. Levelland was batting with a 4-3 lead when the rains brought an early end to the night’s activity.
Catcher Richard Urban led a nine-hit Clovis attack in the opener, going 3 for 4 and knocking in five runs. Urban hit an RBI double in the Cats’ two-run first, highlighted a six-run second with a two-run double and added a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Mark Young also went 3 for 4 for Clovis with two singles, a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Mark Replogle and Sean Cruce each scored a pair of runs for the Cats.
Luke Gray, who will be a junior a CHS next fall, hurled four no-hit innings to pick up the victory. He walked one and struck out three.
John Props pitched two innings before Jason Seefeld closed out the seventh inning.
Clovis (2-0, 1-0 WTBL) returns to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday with a league doubleheader against Amarillo High at Bell Park.
