  • Police: Suspect in custody for dealership fires

    Clovis police said Monday they have a suspect in custody for weekend fires at The Hamilton Auto Group’s Auto World car dealership in Clovis and GM Country in Portales. Clovis Police Capt. Patrick Whitney declined to identify the suspect until charges are filed. Whitney said that although the fire department has not confirmed arson, the biggest wait to charging a suspect will be on the time frame of the fire department’s investigation. A preliminary canvass of votes for the Nov. 4 general election showed candidates Ray Powell and Aubrey Dunn were separated by 14 hundredths of 1 percent of the vote.     Local columnist My grandpa and grandma — ages 90 and 86 — spent Thanksgiving alone this year. With the exception of their one daughter, two of their children and all five of their grandchildren have moved away from their home in California.
