A wide assortment of issue advocates who oppose the president-elect have reacted to Donald Trump’s victory with emotions ranging from serious and legitimate concern to hysteria. Organizations that advocate for immigrants in the country illegally are among those spreading fear that is unlikely to match reality. Without question, Trump often spoke in harsh terms when discussing illegal immigration during both the primary and general elections. In late August, after meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump se...

    Karl Terry|Updated Nov 30, 2016

In the 'nothing's sacred anymore' category, the first strains of the song "Alice's Restaurant Masacreee" that I heard this Thanksgiving were sung by a group of soldiers. The group is called Six-String Soldiers and they have the greatest job in the military. They play concerts and make music videos while playing guitars, banjo and mandolin. They're pretty good, I "liked" them on Facebook a long time ago, which is why I heard the song. But this column isn't really about singing...

  • All assistance should be voluntary

    Kent McManigal|Updated Nov 30, 2016

It is once again the season to remember the less fortunate. On one hand, you shouldn't need an annual reminder to be good to other people, but on the other hand, sometimes it's fortunate the calendar has a few such reminders built in.
