Glenn Beck, thank you for helping women find God. Beck, who defends the founding principles of freedom that made our country the envy of the world, learned about a new challenge facing Gospel Shelters for Women. The organization’s website says it helps “homeless, previously incarcerated women with programs of restoration through the Love of Jesus, Bible truths and self-discipline.” Government recognizes the shelter’s value and has given it two annual $25,000 grants for years. Now it wants control. The modern crusade to sani... Full story
I usually find the inspirational sayings and dewy-eyed images in friends’ Facebook postings somewhat schmaltzy. However, a recent photo of the emaciated arm of an African child being grasped by an American aid worker with the caption, “You are living her dream life,” did sink in. Like most, I often feel that I am falling short or missing out on something. Yet, that subconscious anxiety was supplanted by the Facebook posting on a recent Sunday morning as I drove to Walmart in my current-model car. I thought about it while...

I would like to openly address public concerns about the recent incident at the Curry County Adult Detention Center. Interim Detention Administrator Tori Sandoval and Assistant County Manager Connie Harrison have completed the investigation into the escape that occurred early last Sunday morning. The results of that investigation concern me as much as they do county residents. This type of incident is unacceptable and cannot continue to happen. I am just like the public. I am tired of it. We have 70 employees who work at the...
Robin Fornoff Curry County Manager Lance Pyle is calling week-long events inside the jail leading up to the escape of a maximum-security inmate “unbelievable ... a tremendous breach.” Pyle said Friday that an internal investigation revealed the escapee, Narcizo Soto, 35, was allowed to work on the floor beginning Nov. 7, a week before his early morning escape Nov. 13. Pyle said the investigation revealed Soto — accused of shooting at his girlfriend’s car while her child was in it on Feb. 26 — told a deten... Full story
