  • Fed's claim of job creation poor wording

Freedom New Mexico Washington claims 640,000 to 1.5 million jobs have been created or saved by the $787 billion economic stimulus plan. With only about 15 percent of the money spent so far by those intended to receive it, at this rate America might implausibly end up with more new jobs than available workers. Has the federal government really created or saved all those jobs by taking other peoples’ money to give to someone else? The White House said 640,000 is the most accurate estimate of stimulus jobs yet. But Vice P...

  • Letter to the editor: Weh understands concept of budget

Weh understands concept of budget I met New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh several weeks ago, and I was thoroughly impressed. He’s a combat veteran of the Marine Corps, and he runs a very successful business out of Albuquerque. What’s more is he believes state government should be run like a business. That sounds like common sense to me. Like a business, you don’t spend more money than what you have in the bank, you provide A-class services, and you keep a savings for tough times. It sounds a lot like running a hou... Full story

  • Team teaching puts new spin on classroom subjects

Courtesy photo Terry Pipkin and Tarmara Lopez’s seventh grade class staged an archeological dig at Marshall Middle School. The exercise was part of a new team teaching program. Have you ever attended a function or event just because you were being polite to the host or hostess, and you felt obligated? Well, I have to admit that is what happened to me when a teacher at Marshall Junior High School, Terry Pipkin, invited me to observe the archeological dig scheduled for her 7th grade class. But, was I glad after I went. I...
