  • Ram boys finish fourth at Lovington

CMI staff Even without an individual event winner, the Portales boys felt pretty good about their first showing of the track season at the Lovington Relays. The Ram boys qualified three athletes and had multiple point-scorers in several events to finish in a fourth-place tie with Artesia in the five-team meet. “This is probably the most depth we’ve had in quite some time,” Portales coach Glenn Johnson said. “We’ve got lots of young men that are doing a tremendous job competing, and they’ve worked hard through the year. It was... Full story

  • I invaded territory for spare change

I was cleaning out the litter box the other day. While I was scooping I got to thinking that it was too bad I couldn’t make money off the project. link Grant McGee Then I remembered reading about people making money scooping up dog poo from the streets of London and selling it to tanneries. The people called themselves “pure finders.” I wondered what was “pure” about that job? Then I remembered those days of yore when I did get cash for stuff I found in the road. Those wer...

Attorneys involved with the bankruptcy proceedings said they will return to U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Albuquerque on Monday to continue the finalization of the deal. Sunland attorney William Arland said he is guessing the plant will be reopened because Hampton Farms, which adv...

  • Animals don't speak anything but fair

    Sharna Johnson

Animals can be stern, harsh and even lethal — and with onboard weapons, it’s safe to say most of them are even built for it. link Sharna Johnson When they argue it can seem brutal. When they discipline or correct one another it’s usually enough to make a human cringe and shy away. And they can kill without compunction. Hunger and territory beget skirmishes and the taking of life. Poor behavior prompts severe criticism — of the type involving teeth and claws. But with rare exce...
