  • My Turn - Save us from rednecks, racists and zealots

A simple solution to prayers at taxpayer-funded events might be ones that admit what we don't know. That should offend everyone equally. This newspaper owns my words for 30 days, but after that feel free to use the following: "God, we do not know if you exist or in what form, but we doubt that you would approve of the ways you've been described. "We know that you are not vindictive enough to slaughter innocent women and children for the sins of men violating legalistic edicts attributed to you in ancient documents cobbled tog...

If passed, the 2012 GO Bond B question on the Nov. 6 ballot would spread $9.8 million across the state for equipment and supplemental library resource acquisitions, including print, non-print and electronic resources. For the property owners there will be a tax increase based upon the size of the projects and amount of money awarded to communities, said Tim Lyman, Curry County assessor. Lyman said the amount of increase is still not known and the Public Education Department will generate the tax rate to repay the Go Bonds....

  • Wily feral hog given chase

So there I was in the early morning haze between the hours of dawn and daylight, stealthily walking across a mowed field in search of the wily feral hog. Actually the first half-mile was not as stealthy, it was more like trudging, since my packer whom we'll call Newt, had partied the night before and failed to gas up the four-wheeler. Carrying pistols, rifles, ammo, bandoliers, reams of toilet tissue and video filming equipment, we looked more like refugees fleeing the Libyan conflict, followed by the paparazzi! Suddenly my...

  • ENMU taught alumn responsibility

    Christina Calloway PNT senior writer

The leadership skills Si Trujillo developed as an Eastern New Mexico University dormitory director are helping him run his business in Denver. A recent ENMU graduate from Raton and the 25-year-old business owner, Trujillo says his experience as Eddy Hall director taught him the importance of responsibilities, among other things. "Working in housing really helped, I learned discipline, it's not always about fun," Trujillo said. "Sometimes you have to stay in and get your work done." After receiving his master's degree in...

  • ACU thumps Hounds

ABILENE, Texas — If it was the last time Eastern New Mexico University plays Abilene Christian in football, it wasn't the way the Greyhounds were hoping to go out. ACU had three returns for touchdowns, including the opening kickoff, and senior quarterback Mitchell Gale tossed four TD passes as the Wildcats overpowered ENMU 59-17 in a Lone Star Conference football game on Saturday night. Freshman Cade Stone returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a score — the second game-opening kickoff return score the Hounds (2-4, 1-3...
