Roosevelt County Clerk Janet Collins said there are no poll watchers for Roosevelt County but she would gladly welcome any who might come. Local county clerks agree that poll watchers are a good thing when it comes to voter confidence. With the general election approaching Nov. 6, New Mexico is beginning to train poll watchers . Poll watchers are individuals certified through the New Mexico secretary of...

  • My Turn - Interviews with former students memorable

I've enjoyed the interviews I conducted recently with former Eastern New Mexico University students. Each one of them was memorable and I truly enjoy the connection I made with these individuals when telling their stories. Jim Slone is a Causey native who made big bucks by selling five radio stations in Tuscon, Ariz., at the end of a successful radio career. Not only was his story inspiring, but Slone is kind, humble, hilarious and he made a career doing what he loved. Many of us want that. Robert Patrick is an eccentric...

  • I hope we don't blow the call

    Kevin Wilson

I'm a fan of an NFL team that went 2-1 during the first three games of the season, under which replacement referees had a subpar performance filling in for locked-out officials. I'm one of the lucky fans, because my 49ers won two games and lost one game convincingly; replacement refs couldn't be the tipping point. For other fans (it rhymes with "Clean Day Sackers"), not so much. The image of a botched call with no time left that cost the Sackers a win will be the easiest thing to remember about the lockout that was settled...

The recommendation will go forward to the Clovis City Commission on Thursday. The recommendation passed on a 5-1 vote.
