It is a National Day where junior high and high school students around the world meet who agree their school needs prayer as well as other things at meet at their school’s flag pole.   • Cannon holding aircraft ceremony

    Cannon Air Force Base will host an aircraft acceptance ceremony at 1 p.m. Thursday, marking the first MC-130J Combat Shadow II for Air Force Special Operations Command. Lt. Col. Paul Pendleton, commander of the 522nd Special Operations Squadron at Cannon, said the MC-130J can carry about 40 percent more payload and do it 15 to 20 percent faster than previous C-130J’s. The aircraft will be delivered from the Lockheed Martin plant in Marietta, Ga. The event is not open to the public.... Full story

    Two Clovis High School graduates are being awarded the ACLU of New Mexico’s 2011 Guardian of Liberty Award for their efforts at organizing the school’s first Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA). The winners are James Walker and Steven De Los Santos. In a press release Monday, the ACLU noted the two “had attempted several times in the past to establish the club ... but were continually rebuffed by the administration.” The GSA was approved by the school board on May 4.     PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University’s women ended a five-match losing streak against Midwestern State on Sunday, battling the Mustangs to a 1-1 Lone Star Conference tie at the ENMU pitch.     Clovis man elected to board The American Seed Trade Association elected Blake Curtis of Clovis as first vice chairman of its Board of Directors for the 2011-12 fiscal year. Curtis is senior vice-president of Curtis and Curtis, Inc., a family-owned agricultural business in eastern New Mexico. The business was established in 1956 to supply native grass seeds to the area. A state legislator from 1986 to 1995, Curtis has served as president of the New Mexico State Seed Association and is currently serving under as a board member...

    It’s time to clean up Portales again, according to Portales Deputy City Clerk Veda Urioste, who coordinates the annual Portales Tas No Mas, previously called the Trek for Trash. A second tenant is in the process of calling the Clovis Industrial Park home. Dodgeville, Wisc.-based Quality Liquid Feeds plans to have a Clovis production facility open on Nov. 1.
