  • amos the churchmouse: sammy seeks consolation

    Gary Mitchell

Editor’s note: Amos is a churchmouse, who types by hopping on the computer keyboard, but he can’t operate the capital shift keys, and he shuns punctuation marks – except dashes and hyphens....

  • God is with us through all of life’s milestones

Susie, my sister who lives in Rochester, Minn., has a friend from her church that has recently gone through radiation treatments. All along Susie has kept up with her friend and been part of the support system for this precious friend. Susie e-mailed me an interesting as well as heart warming observation just last week. Susie said that at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester there is a large brass captain’s bell in the lobby of the radiation therapy department. The bell represents an important milestone for all those undergoing r...

  • Military mama: We all have something to learn from 9/11

Show of hands, who had a good cry this week? I know that I had tears rolling despite my attempts to avoid the 9/11 tributes. It’s not that I don’t care, I am not heartless. Rather I didn’t want to expose my kids to the kind of brutality and reality of that tragic day. My oldest has seen a YouTube clip of a newscast from the day. The only exposure that he has had to this event was directly related to the death of Osama Bin Laden. How do you explain to a five year old that there are people out there who hate our country, despi... Full story

  • Food at the speed of life: Ice cream pie made to be shared

OK, this ice cream pie isn’t especially healthy, but it looks unique and very tasty. It’s also supposed to take only 15 minutes to make, plus time freezing unattended. I recommend finding someone to share the pie with and not making it too often. Again, the recipe is from www.tasteofhome.com and reprinted with permission. From Kimberly West of Prairieville, La., it’s also a contest winner with Taste of Home.... Full story
