STAFF WRITER [email protected] The Portales Lady Rams had to fight back a tough Desert Academy team to win their second-straight home game. Portales (3-4) needed a barrage of late-minute goals to beat the Wildcats (1-2) 6-2 in a game that was much closer than the score would indicate. • Wildcats seeking 3-0 start

DEPUTY EDITOR [email protected] The Clovis Wildcats have their non-district season now and their non-district season in late October. But a different subset starts Friday night — trap game season. A case could be made that each of the next five games for Clovis is a trap game of some sort. On one hand, one could argue trap games for the 2-0 Wildcats Friday against 0-2 Atrisco Heritage and Oct. 9 against Class 5A Grants. On the other, Clovis may be the trap game for C...

  • Shelburne: Still need to heed call for healing, unity, grace

    Curtis Shelburne

I’ve tried to resist writing this column. Maybe not hard enough. May I say early on ... First, reality in general and history in particular, are rarely as simple, clear-cut and tidy as many folks would like to think. Second, the winners of wars get to write most of the history. link Curtis Shelburne Third, just because the majority of the mainstream news media and other purveyors of political correctness believe something passionately does not even usually make it true. The re... Full story

  • Render: Hillary lacks competence, judgment

There are two issues facing Hillary Clinton that have a direct impact on her capability to function as president. These issues are her judgment and her competence. link Rube Render The first issue concerns her use of an unsecured system to perform the duties of secretary of state. It is mind boggling to think that someone who has been in the political arena for as long as Clinton could believe that no classified information would be sent to her on her email account. Her claim...

  • Shock, grief of attacks remembered

Today marks the 14th anniversary of the day in which more than 3,000 people were killed as a result of terrorists attacks. Two of four hijacked airplanes crashed into and destroyed each of the Twin Towers in New York City. A third crashed into and damaged the Pentagon near Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, killing every passenger aboard. Sept. 11 vividly remains in the hearts and minds of Americans, so we asked locals to reflect and share...
