  • City to hold observance honoring library victims

    CLOVIS - A moment of silence will highlight a city of Clovis observance on Tuesday marking the one-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at Clovis-Carver Public Library. The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday on the library's south lawn. Mayor David Lansford will lead the observance, according to a city news release. Mendez, who recently took over the program, earlier this month, previously did youth soccer coaching in Portales.     CLOVIS — As the category 4 storm Hurricane Lane heads toward Hawaii, eastern New Mexico residents with an island connection are left worrying about what will happen in the hours to come.     Wind Symphony named honor band CLOVIS — The Clovis High School Wind Symphony was named New Mexico Music Educators Association’s State Honor Band for 2019, according to a Clovis Municipal Schools press release.     CLOVIS — Joelle Reed is no longer general manager of the Curry County Events Center, but she declined to say why when contacted by The News on Wednesday. Reed had been GM since 2014.     CLOVIS — A woman charged last year with felony extreme cruelty to animals was sentenced Wednesday to two years supervised probation through a plea agreement. Twila Williams, 50, of Portales, was arrested in March in connection with an incident from August 2017 when one horse was found dead and eight other equines — five horses and three donkeys — malnourished in Curry County.
