    Hill Mark and Dee Hill of Clovis will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary 2 p.m. Saturday at 2129 Jonquil Park Drive, Clovis. The celebration will be hosted by their children Clint and Kelsey Hill; Dan and Kari Hill; and Matt and Callie Whittington. The couple was married on Aug. 29, 1981, at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Clovis. They have three children and one grandchild. He is a Frito-Lay routeman. She is a teacher in Melrose.     Clovis resident Bill Gaedke has been called the voice of Clovis High School Wildcat sports. He earned the name by announcing for every home game of nearly every sport at the high school. Gaedke said he couldn’t pick a favorite sport. Somewhere at the Curry County Fair, a food court customer might have noted some sticker shock when they paid $8 for that once-a-year turkey leg.   • Green thumb no match for drought

    If I ever had a green thumb it has turned black. I’ve lamented recently the condition of my front yard but I have to report with the recent rains it’s starting to green up. Of course the green parts are grass burrs. The rose bushes decided to emerge from their drought-induced dormancy long enough for one of the uncooperative shrubs to throw out suckers that now reach the eaves of the house.     Cancer patients and their caregivers traveling to Lubbock for cancer treatments have found new hope for the past year. Since the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Lubbock opened its doors, the “home away from home” has made great strides in the fight to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. In the past year, the Lodge has supported more than 400 guests, totaling 5,531 free nights of housing for cancer patients and their families traveling to Lubbock for treatment.
