    Freedom New Mexico The states are restless. Increasingly, states across America are resisting encroachments on their liberties by the federal government. The most recent examples concern objections by two states to the forced adoption of President Barack Obama’s health-care law.     Police processing evidence in homicide Portales police say they’re still waiting on the state lab for forensic evidence to advance to homicide case of ENMU student Angel Vale. Portales Deputy Police Chief Lonnie Berry said the state crime lab is analyzing and comparing .22 caliber shell casings and bullets to the rifle a 13-year-old Portales boy is charged with stealing from Vale’s home.     Tucker Noted guitarist Kenneth and Myrtle Tucker of Clovis will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 14. They were married in 1960 in Clovis.     Associated Press stories slanted Tuesday’s CNJ carried a story written by Cain Burdeau of The Associated Press: “Gulf dead zone one of largest ever.” This article is typical of my beef with AP articles your paper publishes. Many of them are slanted with a progressive view point to manipulate public opinion on certain political issues. Melissa Newman, or anybody else in Clovis, might take a day off from weed pulling. The weeds, thanks to a summer full of rain, aren’t taking any breaks from growing. “We have a severe weed problem in our yard,” said Newman, who lives with her son on 21st Street. “We don’t go more than a day without pulling weeds in our garden. She said her time at ENMU still affects her work today. An Eastern New Mexico University graduate has displayed her art in 1,100 locations, worked with rock band KISS and made her mark on the New Mexico Lottery. Jessica Quintana, who graduated from ENMU in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, designed the new popular KISS scratchers. “They were fun,” she said....

    Curry County commissioners meet Monday to consider posing a bond question to voters in the November general election. The bond, if approved by voters, would pay for a judicial complex.
