    Just as a horse race can change suddenly and rather unexpectedly, so too, apparently, can the contest for the state’s sixth and last available racino license. The New Mexico Racing Commission notified The News late Wednesday afternoon of its “final list” of letters of intent to apply for the license, which included three additional entities not included in the initial list released Monday after the 4:30 p.m. deadline that day.   • Punishing kids for unruly parents a no-go

    On Tuesday night, the Santa Fe Public Schools Board of Education considered a policy to suspend or even remove a player from a team if the athlete’s parents display unsportsmanlike conduct during at least three athletic events during the 2018-19 school year. Santa Fe’s board voted it down. Don’t count on hearing a similar policy proposed locally. Both Clovis Athletic Director Lonnie Baca and Portales AD Mark Gallegos gave an emphatic no to such an idea.   • New Parkview ready to be unveiled

    CLOVIS - The most recent addition to the Clovis school district will be unveiled to the public for the first time at next week's ribbon cutting for Parkview Elementary. "(It's) definitely a different environment, so much space and everything is brand new," Principal Wayne Marshall said of the new building.     GREENSBORO, N.C. — For the second-straight year, Eastern New Mexico University’s baseball team has received the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, according to a Wednesday release from the school.
