    A 37-year-old Roosevelt County man has been arrested on accusations that he was driving while intoxicated with an unrestrained toddler in the back seat. Manuel Gallegos is charged with child abuse and altering vehicle registration, both felonies, as well as a third offense of aggravated DWI, not maintaining lanes, driving on a suspended or revoked license, not having insurance and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, all misdemeanors, said State Police Lt.     Our regular goin’-to-the-pasture rig, a one-ton 4-wheel drive ‘97 GMC diesel with 256,439 miles, was in the shop. So we brought out the ol’ standby; a 1969 Ford F-250; 4-speed with split rims and a manual choke. It has a B&W turnover gooseneck ball made during the Civil War, I think.   • Cannon Air Force Base gate closed briefly Saturday

    The Cannon Air Force Base gate was closed to incoming traffic for about 35 minutes Saturday when an Explosive Ordnance Disposal dog locked onto something in a car attempting to gain access to the base. Lt. Stephanie Strine with Cannon Public Affairs said cars are chosen at random for security checks. A car which was chosen for the check was subject to a full inspection after the dog’s alarm.
