  • Food at the speed of life: Mousse dessert easy to whip up

Sweet, creamy ... and low-calorie. One of my friends has a great recipe for mousse. She often makes it with the help of visiting children, since the recipe is simple, doesn’t involve hot equipment and contains no eggs and therefore no worries about salmonella when kids want to lick the bowl. She says it’s impossible to mess up. Also, you have to say “Moooooooose!” while you’re stirring for the recipe to work. At least, that’s what my friend tells the kids....

  • Still trying to fit part of super mom

We all have the same amount of hours in the day. However, what we can accomplish varies greatly. I often feel like I’m running on a hamster wheel. I try and try, but my to-do list keeps getting longer, the clutter piles up and I am left wishing for more time. I appreciate the break of summer, it seems as though the lack of a strict daily schedule should allow me to have plenty of free time. Yet, when I have a certain amount of structure it seems easier to check things off the list as I go. When I am free to do as I please, I...

  • Growing older just part of life

Our culture seems to put a premium on youth and beauty. Television commercials are flooded with products that supposedly keep us young-looking. Plastic surgery is “in,” all the way to face-lifts, chin lifts and nose jobs. Please don’t get me wrong. I think we should try to look our best but to be preoccupied with youth and beauty to the point of near bankruptcy and health deprivation with diets is totally unrealistic. The underlying message is you are not okay the way you are. You are not acceptable. Yet, God says in 1 Peter...

    Liliana Castillo

Just over 89,000 Tricare beneficiaries in New Mexico will be affected by Walgreens leaving Tricare’s drug network. • Not all rural deliveries welcome

Where we lived when I was a kid gave Rural Free Delivery (RFD) a whole new dimension. It was two miles to the mailbox, dirt road of course, and the mailman only drove the 25 miles from town twice a week. My brother and I ordered stuff through the mail. I sent in a boxtop and a couple of dollars to the cereal company for a little stuffed doll. I could choose Snap, Crackle or Pop. I chose Snap. After we mailed the order I waited…..and waited…..and waited. It wasn’t like I hadn’t been warned, though. It pla... Full story

  • Libertarians can bridge parties

I place a high value on liberty. My own, obviously, but also on yours. After all I only get as much liberty as I respect for all others. If we are to ever have that free society, rather than going it alone, there is a realization that needs to occur: It takes all kinds. Or at least, almost all kinds. As long as we are heading the same direction on the one issue of increasing liberty for all, I am willing to work with just about anyone. Back when I thought I was conservative I only noticed the liberal parts of libertarianism...

  • DEA shouldn’t offer medical opinions

Freedom New Mexico Once again, government servants have told Americans that marijuana ranks right up there with heroin. The Drug Enforcement Agency ruled on July 8 that marijuana has “no accepted medical use” and will continue as a schedule 1 drug — the most forbidden category. The DEA is a law enforcement bureaucracy. The medical opinions of law enforcement bureaucrats should be of little interest. We do not ask cops to make laws; we pay cops to enforce the laws established by constitutions or enacted by the peo...
