  • Pool should reopen Wednesday

    The Portales city swimming pool should reopen Wednesday pending the approval from the state health department, according to Public Works Director John DeSha. The pool was odered closed Friday by the state health department after it was confirmed a child with an infectious disease swam there about a week ago. State health officials will inspect the disinfectant levels in the water today, making sure the city followed proper procedure.   • Fireworks complaints keep law enforcement busy

    Despite a ban forbidding aerial fireworks in the city and county, fireworks complaints kept law enforcement agencies busy. According to call logs from the Clovis Police Department, more than 160 fireworks complaints were logged during the week of the July fourth holiday. In unincorporated areas of Curry County, there were eight complaints, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller. However, no citations were issued, according to law enforcement spokesmen.
