  • Lady Rams cruise to sweep of Jal

    Kevin Wilson CMI sports writer

If there were any concerns Portales would have a letdown a day after scoring a District 4-3A sweep over its biggest rival, they were gone like softballs off the bat of Sorina Flores. JOSHUA LUCERO: CMI Correspondent Portales' Jasmin Vega dives back to second ahead of the tag by Jal second baseman Jawni Morrison in the second inning of Saturday's second at Wheeler Park. Portales won 16-0 for its 11th consecutive victory. The senior went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and seven batted in to help the Lady Rams coast to a 12-1,...

  • Hounds hoping for better health in 2012

    Dave Wagner CMI sports writer

Common sense says if Eastern New Mexico University's football squad has any better luck with its overall health in 2012 than it did last season, the Greyhounds almost have to be better. JOSHUA LUCERO: CMI correspondent ENMU's Evan Tooley avoids defender Michael Stephens on his way to a touchdown during Saturday's intrasquad football scrimmage at Greyhound Stadium. The annual Green & Silver game will bring spring drills to an end next Saturday. Quarterback Wes Wood pointed out...

  • Teachers make a difference

    Clyde Davis CMI columnist

It is fast approaching the end of another school year. The awards banquets take place, the graduation and prom decisions are being made, and this column takes the time to recognize teachers who have made a difference in our lives. We will start, tongue in cheek, with the negative differences. Just because they are tongue in cheek doesn't mean they aren't real. To Mr. Malinowski, our fourth grade permanent sub after Mrs. Ackerman went on maternity leave at mid year- thanks for making fun of the doctor's excuse I brought in...

  • Pink slime won't turn me off beef

    Karl terry CMI columnist

You won't catch me out in the pasture grazing for nutrients when there's a bovine that can do it for me. That's right, when that little old lady in the Wendy's commercial uttered "Where's the beef," several decades ago, I answered, "Right here on my plate." You would think that after nearly 30 years of marriage my wife would understand that I'm an avowed meat-eater. She messes up on occasion though, and puts a lasagna or spaghetti sauce on the table without meat in it. When I notice this I tease her and ask if she left the...
