While packing to take my oldest son to the hospital for brain surgery, I came across a shirt we had bought for him around St Patrick's Day. On the shirt was the phrase "Born Lucky." Confirmed cases of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, in New Mexico are three to four times higher than previous years, according to Chad Smelser, medical epidemiologist with the New Mexico Department of Health.
