    One of my favorite pieces to pass out to my freshman English classes is an essay by a scuba diver. Placed loosely in the science category, it involves his reaction when, while diving one day amid schools of smaller fish, a school of tarpon moved through the area. The diver, also a marine biologist, became sensitive to the response of, basically, everything in the area.     Freedom New Mexico Firefighters from two Roosevelt County agencies were called to a structure fire in Arch around 3:30 p.m. Friday. The fire, in a loading warehouse at Glen’s Peanuts on the east side of Arch, destroyed commodity peanuts, pallets and other items valued at an estimated $57,500, according to Arch Fire Chief Hugh Frank. The fire also did an estimated $25,000 of damage to the building, he said. Frank said an employee noticed the blaze inside the building shortly after it ignited. At that time flames were r...

    Fireworks vendors in Curry and Roosevelt counties said sales are picking up as July 4 nears. “We have been open since June 20 and have already had to order more fireworks,” said Karlee Johnson of TNT Fireworks in Clovis.
