  • Teach of our sacrifices by telling their stories

    Judy Brandon|Updated May 26, 2017

Sadly, I read an article last week in which the author challenged his readers by asserting that patriotism in America is on the decline. And how is that decline manifested? The author claimed that Americans are less patriotic these days because they do not value the symbols of American democracy or the values that America was founded upon. He contended that past generations were patriotic as young people and remain patriotic all their lives. Yet, the author believes the...

  • No time for clock in a barn

    Audra Brown|Updated May 26, 2017

There is no clock in the barn. Or, if there is, it’s probably wrong because who remembers to take care of the clock in the barn? There is a reason there is no clock in the barn. The barn is for things that need doing, not things that you can pause at an arbitrary moment. When you are welding up a gate or fixing the planetary gears that go inside the hubs of a rather large tractor, you can’t drop what you are doing — literally or figuratively. Indeed, it is equally as diffi...

The 522-megawatt wind farm was announced earlier this year with Xcel purchasing the project from Chicago-based Invenergy and constructing it. On his father’s side — By the way, J. D. Grey, for many years pastor of New Orleans’ First Baptist Church, used to tell the story of a little lad who lived a long way from his paternal grandmother. When the boy went with his father to the railway station to pick her up, she hugged him and said, “Young man, I’m your...
