  • Everyone has a story to tell

When I'm asked where I get ideas for this column, I explain that in my travels among the agricultural masses, everyone has a story to tell…and they tell me! Almost always they include getting bucked off, run over or humiliated in some form, by large domestic mammals. However, there are some subjects that are just not suitable for a column with such integrity, like mine. Even if I intend to be educational I am somehow lead to the whacko side…like Martin and his colonoscopy saga. I admit I could write a serious column abo... Full story

  • Celebrating the nation's fallen heroes

    Christina Calloway PNT senior writer

As the nation prepares to celebrate its fallen heroes Monday, Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce Director Karl Terry wants to remind you of the efforts of one Portales High School class. The PHS class of 1958 saw fit to honor members of the armed forces who died while serving any war since the county's inception, and after four years of planning, unveiled its efforts with a war memorial dedication ceremony last year during Memorial Day weekend. Those who died in the numerous wars are featured on paver stones at the...

  • Obama should demand serious action from IRS

    Albuquerque Journal

Overshadowed by the trio of Obama Administration scandals that have dominated Washington's attention in recent weeks is the renewed attention to sexual assaults and harassment in the military. Behavior that ranges from inappropriately boorish to criminal has long been a major problem. The issue resurfaced this month after an Army sergeant who was assigned to coordinate a sexual assault prevention program was himself accused of sexual assault. In a news conference, President Obama spoke with passion and righteous anger about...

"You have to be responsible because a lot of people count on you to do your job," said junior Vanessa Chavez. "They count on you to do yours so they can do theirs." Christina Calloway:...

  • Morally wrong to impose your religion on others

    Wendel Sloan column

I last saw Janet Leslie Reynolds in 1978 when I was "friends" (pre-Facebook) with her older cousin Helen in the graduate counseling program at East Texas State University — and Janet helped in the family restaurant. Since then, Janet has married, divorced, and now lives with Beth — a nanny. My Florida Facebook friend does not understand why anyone wants to prevent Beth and her from making a legal commitment. "We need to tell people who use religion against marriage equality that their opinion counts only in their per... Full story

  • Wait for uptick or head for the hills

    Ned Cantwell column

That wild and crazy Richard Branson says New Mexico's space future will roar into reality on Christmas Day when he will blast into orbit — wheee! — himself and others who coughed up a couple of hundred thousand bucks. Rich promises a soft landing. This deadline will pass as others have, of course. However, there are significant developments at the New Mexico Spaceport. Just weeks ago, Space Exploratory Technologies Corp. announced it will set up shop at Spaceport America. The company will be flight testing its rocket tha...
