    ALBUQUERQUE — The Portales Rams, seeded fifth in the Class 3A state baseball tournament, thought they were a better team than fourth seed Bloomfield, and in Wednesday’s quarterfinals, they proved it.     The Concerned Citizens for Curry County are sponsoring an anti-ethanol plant rally today outside the venue for the Clovis City Commission meeting. The rally will begin at 5:15 p.m. outside the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library, according to a news release from the group. Its purpose is to bring attention to what the group said is growing opposition to the construction of a 108-million-gallon-a-year ethanol plant west of Clovis by the ConAgra Trade Group. He says most of his days are spent behind his desk booking clients, but during large events he usually ends up helping out in the kitchen. The Clovis Civic Center is holding a birthday breakfast Friday, and everyone is invited.     The Portales High School chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America have accomplished another milestone during the past year. In April, FCCLA teacher Debbie Stenstrom traveled to Albuquerque with a group of six students, to compete in the state contest.     The Upward Bound Program at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales has been re-funded for five years, according to an ENMU news release. The Department of Education approved a grant of $348,146 for each year, totaling more than $1.7 million.
