  • Big Give brings Cannon, local community together

    Liliana Castillo

About 100 Cannon Air Force Base airmen and family members spent April in the community working in hospitals, nursing homes, animal shelters, cleaning graffiti and more. The community service is part of the Big Give project. The project is a way for airmen to be involved in the community, Project Manager Paul Hopkins said. “This is just a way for airmen to be able to give,” Hopkins said. The teams have a chance at a first prize of $3,000, second prize of $1,500 and a people’s choice award of $500. Kristine Nimmo, a membe... Full story

  • TRICARE explains HIPAA

PHOENIX — Whether you access your health care through TRICARE or a private health insurance plan, you’ve probably had to sign a HIPAA form every time you filled out paperwork at your doctor’s office. Do you know why? What exactly is HIPAA, and what does it mean for you? HIPAA is shorthand for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. • AFAF donations encouraged

In today’s economy a return of 300 percent on your investment would be considered awesome by anybody’s standards. That’s the type of return Cannon airmen received from last year’s Air Force Assistance Fund. In 2009 Cannon contributed nearly $33,000 to the AFAF and received $127,000 in assistance from a program that was established to support the Air Force family of active duty, retirees, reservist, guard, dependents and surviving spouses. This year’s campaign is down to its final two weeks and ends May 7. With more airmen he...

  • Sightseeing leads to prickly mess

It is a photo imbedded in my memory — partly cloudy blue skies, a nearby mountain range coursing diagonally across the background, a finger shadow on the lens, and the glimpse of a startled horse’s left eye in the bottom right hand corner. I was making a big circle one cold spring morning. I’d made it clear to the Canary Springs on the high end of the seven-section pasture. My horse picked up when I started back down over the ridges and smaller canyons. I passed a few cows, looked ’em over then topped the last big r...

  • Prayer can revive holiness of country

    Joan Clayton

On May 6, this year’s National Day of Prayer will join those who are sincerely lifting up the needs of our nation. We must have a deep resolve. We do this with conviction, looking the enemy in the eye, telling him that he cannot have this country. Prayer is our utmost priority in these times. Let us seek the Lord for the spiritual revival in our land. May we listen to God’s call. It is a call to righteousness, to repentance and holiness. We respond by praying as a nation together. Especially on May 6, please be in pra...
