  • Video store seeks letters, cards from community for soldiers

    Freedom New Mexico Landall’s Box Office in Portales is reaching out to the community for cards and letters to send along with the movies they give the to the troops stationed overseas. “We would like for the whole town to show their support,” said Peggy Goolsby, store manager. “Cannon is a part of our town and we thought that if people bring in a card or a letter in, we’ll put them in our boxes.” Goolsby said they will be accepting cards and letters for the next six weeks.     Freedom New Mexico Texico school superintendent R.L. Richards has withdrawn his name from consideration as Clovis' next superintendent. A news release from Clovis Municipal Schools said Richards withdrew on Friday in a letter to CMS board members. The news release did not provide a reason for Richards' decision. Rhonda Seidenwurm announced earlier this year she will retire as CMS superintendent in June. Richards and three others were named finalists for the position on March 10.     Freedom New Mexico: Liliana Castillo Texico Superintendent R.L. Richards withdrew his name from consideration as Clovis' next superintendent. Texico school superintendent R.L. Richards has withdrawn his name from consideration as Clovis' next superintendent. A news release from Clovis Municipal Schools said Richards withdrew on Friday in a letter to CMS board members.     That new movie “Alice in Wonderland” has been showing at theaters here on the High Plains. I overheard someone talking about it the other day, talking about Alice’s adventures “down the rabbit hole.” I’d like to trudge on down the rabbit hole we have out back of The Stucco Hacienda. The two girl rabbits have dug what I’m sure is a nice network of tunnels. It has the approval of Mr. Toad. Here it was a few days ago, still winter, I stepped out to chat with the rabbits and noticed a toad sitting in the sun at the hole entrance... Full story

    The proposed Tres Amigas Superstation got some of the power it needed to surge forward with plans to link the nation’s three electric grids with a central site near Clovis. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted Tres Amigas permission Thursday to start negotiating the price of its transmission services with regulations to ensure those prices are fair.
