    CLOVIS -- Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11, and the NBA decided four minutes later to suspend its season, effective after ongoing games concluded. The next day, the state of New Mexico announced public schools would be closed for three weeks.   • NM COVID-19 cases up to 57

    SANTA FE — New Mexico health officials said Saturday the number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the state totals 57. Officials announced 14 additional confirmations on Saturday afternoon. Nine of the new cases are in Bernalillo County, according to the Department of Health. Officials said no cases have been confirmed in Curry or Roosevelt counties as of Saturday.... Full story

  • One dead after early-morning shooting

    CLOVIS — A 22-year-old man died early Saturday after police said he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. According to a Clovis police news release: • At 12:36 a.m., officers responded to the 1400 block of Hickory Street in reference to a subject with a gunshot wound to his head. • On arrival, officers made contact with subjects at the residence and a 22-year old male who had a gunshot wound to his head.     New Mexico’s governor has ordered all restaurants to limit services to take out and home delivery. The governor also ordered shopping malls, movie theaters and health clubs to close, effective Thursday, in response to coronavirus fears.   • Man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds

    CLOVIS — For the second time in three mornings, Clovis police are investigating a shooting. On Wednesday, police said a man was dropped off at Plains Regional Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and legs. They identified the victim as Terrance Abeyta, 18, and said he was “not cooperative with the investigation.” His condition was not reported.     PORTALES — The region’s Major Crimes Unit has been activated to investigate the death of a Roosevelt County man. Sheriff Malin Parker issued a news release Wednesday stating Ben Tabor, 35, “had sustained head injuries during some type of altercation with another male individual while parked” on the side of NM 235.
