    Schools employed W.M. Roberts, but he didn’t just draw paychecks there. They’re where his family worked, where he taught his family to work, and where he met lifelong friends. He was 98 years old. The longtime Farwell Schools superintendent died Oct. 9 of congestive heart failure and pneumonia.   • Hurlburt squadron being reassigned to Cannon

    Freedom New Mexico A helicopter squadron at Hurlburt Field in Florida that was deactivated last Friday will be assigned to Cannon Air Force Base in the future, according to an Air Force Special Operations Command press release. The 20th Special Operations Squadron will fly CV-22 aircraft at Cannon. A military spending bill signed by President Bush includes six of the aircraft for Cannon.     A 28-year-old Curry County inmate was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery on a peace officer Friday afternoon after he attacked two detention officers with a makeshift shank, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller.     Sid Boykin was one of the cowboys of the early days on the Llano Estacado who made the successful move from the ranch to the business world. According to Col. Jack Potter, Boykin made his first trip to New Mexico in 1881 with Old Man George Taylor, when Taylor moved the Boot-Bar cattle from Texas. The Clovis City Commission approved a $500,000 contract with the BNSF Railway to remove the top structure of the Hull Street overpass despite the strong objections of Commissioner Bobby Sandoval and several citizens. The commission approved the proposal 6-1 during a special meeting Friday, with Sandoval casting the dissenting vote. The overpass was closed in July for safety reasons.
