    Albuquerque Journal|Updated Mar 11, 2020

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham suggested fans and families follow New Mexico's high school basketball tournament online — rather than in person — as the state tries to limit a virus outbreak. She said it was simply her advice, not a mandatory order. But limiting attendance at public gatherings will make it easier for New Mexico to slow the spread of COVID-19, she said. "My advice to fans and family members — watch it on TV" or follow it on social media, the governor said of the basketball tournament. "The whole f...

  • Clovis softball hopes to keep up pace

    Peter Stein - Staff Writer|Updated Mar 10, 2020

The Clovis High softball team is off to a 3-1 start this season, but can’t get too comfortable. After all, last year’s Lady Wildcats began 3-0 but wound up 5-19. So, there’s still a long way to go this year. But 3-1 is 3-1, a good foundation for second-year head coach Emery Sierra to build upon, as Clovis looks to make its way toward a respectable season. “There’s quite a bit of potential there,” Sierra said. “As long as they work together and make plays and hit the ball I think they can compete. It’s just those little th...

  • Falcons sweeps ENMU baseball in weather-extended series

The Staff of The News|Updated Mar 10, 2020

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University’s baseball team finally broke the scoring ice on Monday, but even a day’s delay due to weather couldn’t change the Greyhounds’ overall fate. Sunday’s Lone Star Conference series finale between ENMU and Texas-Permian Basin at Greyhound Field was pushed back because of rain. After 24 scoreless innings to start the four-game set, the Hounds managed some damage on offense in the finale, but they fell behind 10-0 early and dropped an 18-6 decision to the Falcons, who posted their first...

  • When God needed miraculous measures, he sent his son

    Curtis Shelburne|Updated Mar 10, 2020

Oops! I doubt he cares, but it looks like a billionaire toy maker for cool kids just got himself into a bit of a bind. (He makes high-priced and over-hyped electric cars — he can keep those, as far as I’m concerned — and some seriously cool rocket ships.) All Tesla CEO Elon Musk did to generate knee-jerk howls was to tweet elegantly and articulately, “The coronavirus panic is dumb.” Not everybody disagreed. I’m told that he got a million “likes” almost immediately. Ma...
