  • My turn: Real life doesn't mean fighting

As much as I try not to compare my life to reality TV, in this week’s episode of my life, I think my house just became “Real World: Portales.” I originally had two roommates and on Sunday, a third one moved in. All of us are very unique, from different places all over the country and the world, and we all have different goals and career aspirations. I love how “real life” the situation actually is because we don’t have a producer staging arguments and fights, or gossiping dinner parties. We’re just four people who are tryin...

The pi...

The biggest knife for slicing TRICARE costs off future defense budgets is not new and higher enrollment fees or deductibles proposed for retirees and their families who use one of the military’s health insurance options of TRICARE Prime, Standard, Extra or, for the elderly, TRICARE for Life. Those phased increases, as detailed here last week, would save a total of $23 billion over 10 years, mostly by sticking retirees with higher costs. But even more dollars — $28 billion over 10 years — would be saved in T...

Eric Butler: CMI correspondent Tara Johnson has always been tenacious. Certainly, her tenacity combined with raw talent led to her playing for Portales High’s girls basketball and volleyball varsity teams while she was anywhere from two to four years younger than the rest of the players.
