  • ENMU play sure to enchant

    Betty Williamson|Updated Feb 16, 2017

Some of my earliest and happiest memories are of wriggling into place on the prickly green velvet seats in Eastern New Mexico University’s old theater and waiting for the lights to dim and the curtains to go up each February for the annual production of the school’s long-running variety show, “Swanee.” Curtain time back then was 8 p.m. I remember my mother insisting my brothers and I attempt to take afternoon naps ahead of the show. I was always too excited to sleep. It was...

While Clovis High School Freshman Academy and Clovis High School have steered in slightly different directions in technology education, our three middle schools have maintained and updated the existing tech labs, which are now called “SmartLabs” to align fully with the program being used. Our middle-school SmartLab facilitator teachers are Rebecca Cottone at Marshall; Devon Maynard...

  • ENMU sweeps in home debut

The Staff of The News|Updated Feb 16, 2017

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University didn't look anything like a 3-9 softball team on Wednesday. New Mexico Highlands certainly looked like a winless one. In their home debut, the host Greyhounds trailed for just half an inning and dominated every category in an 11-0, 8-2 doubleheader sweep of the Cowgirls at Greyhound Field. First baseman Erikka Burke slugged homers in each game of the twin bill, including a two-run shot in the first inning of the opener. But the G...

  • ENMU's 'Pirates of Penzance' production merges disciplines

    Eamon Scarbrough|Updated Feb 16, 2017

PORTALES — While Eastern New Mexico University's production of "Pirates of Penzance" includes pyrotechnics, two separate casts, and a full orchestra pit, the players cited a unique merging of disciplines as their favorite part of the experience. The musical, created by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, brings the talents of ENMU's music and theater departments together to create a performance the community does not often see, according to Instructor of Technical Theater and D...

  • Teacher says work in Spanish rewarding

    Updated Feb 16, 2017

With me, you say something, and then they look, and it's like, 'Wait a minute, they keyed into that word,'" he said. "What's really...
