  • Not going to worry, but I will take care

    Natalie Williams|Updated Mar 28, 2020

When I first heard about the coronavirus, it wasn’t a big deal to anyone at my school. No one was worrying about it. Then time passed and I kept talking about it to my friends and one of them got really scared. But I never worried about it and no one else seemed to worry either. Eventually they closed down the school for the rest of this school year. I have heard kids and teachers say that the coronavirus isn’t real. Students on my bus often joked about it and how it might spread to some teachers so the students won’t have...

  • Riding the bus can get a little out of control

    Natalie Williams|Updated Jan 21, 2020

I ride the bus to school and back, and it has a record for being the worst behaved bus in the school. I sit in the back with the “bad kids” because my best friend sits there. I do like sitting there. I have gotten in trouble several times on the bus for being next to kids being bad. The worst thing they’ve done was throw things off the bus and try to hit cars. The only time they were successful was when they through a plastic bottle and it hit a car behind us. Our bus driver writes everyone up for doing that, but even thoug...

  • My resolution would be to go outside more often

    Natalie Williams|Updated Dec 31, 2019

I personally have never made a resolution for a new year. I have planned on it, but never got it done. But if I were to make a resolution, it would be to go outside often every day. That’s because I’m always in the house when I’m not at school. I know there are people who always have resolutions and always get them done before the next year. My dad always has a resolution and it’s always the same — to run a mile every day. My grandmother says she writes her resolutions down so she can keep herself accountable. People ha...

  • Don't feel like myself without my hair dyed

    Natalie Williams|Updated Dec 24, 2019

I have dyed my hair several times in my life. The first time was when I had longer hair. I dyed the tips of my hair green. To dye my hair, I had to bleach the tips, but it wasn’t that big of a deal since it wasn’t all of my hair. But after I dyed the tips, I wanted to dye all my hair. So then I bleached my whole head then dyed it all blue. I really liked that because blue is my favorite color. Finally, I dyed blue, green and purple. It looked cool when my hair was put up, but eventually I dyed my hair back to brown. Then I w...

  • Current dream pet would be a hedgehog

    Natalie Williams|Updated Dec 17, 2019

I have wanted pets all my life. I already have two dogs and they are irreplaceable. But I really want another pet. It would be nice to have a kitten, lizard or a hedgehog. I really want a hedgehog. I know how to care for one after lots of research. My first exotic pet passion was the fancy bearded dragon lizard. I was at a reptile convention in California with my mom and this woman let me hold her lizard — and ever since, I’ve wanted one. And then I saw a video. And my new dream pet was set on my mind — a sugar glider. These...

  • Thinking about whether 13-year-olds should drive

    Natalie Williams|Updated Dec 10, 2019

I feel like the appropriate-age-to-drive law is wrong. I feel like you should be able to get a driver’s license as soon as you can reach the pedals. Of course, 16 is already really young. Thirteen or so is, you know, “Yikes.” I’ve never driven a car. I have jokingly sat in the driver’s seat and I can reach the pedals and see just fine. I think instead of 16 to get your driver’s license, you could be about 13. Kids driving all over the roads does sound terrifying though. Which is why there should be restrictions if the law...

  • Both cats and dogs have their good points

    Natalie Williams|Updated Dec 3, 2019

I love cats and dogs. I know there are people who prefer one animal over another. No one knows for sure why that’s the case. I am more of a cat person and I don’t know why. I have two dogs and yet I prefer cats a little more. This doesn’t make me think less of my dogs. I love my dogs. I have a friend who loves her cat, but she hates how it sheds all over the house. Dog people have the same issue with shedding. People with cats do not have to walk them. But you do have to walk your dog, or at least you have to let dogs outsi...

  • Life is better now that I have a younger brother

    Natalie Williams|Updated Nov 26, 2019

When my brother Charlie first arrived, I was so happy. I had wanted a sibling all my life and my wish finally came true. Me and my baby brother have a 10-year age gap. Since I was older I could help my mom with him when he was born, and I could carry him. If I was only five years older, my mom probably would not have let me hold him by myself. Before Charlie, I hated being an only child. If you have a lot of siblings, you probably have said that you would love to be an only child. But you should think twice. As an only...

  • Whatever games you play, make sure you have fun

    Natalie Williams|Updated Nov 19, 2019

My favorite video game is Call of Duty: Ghosts. Lots of people play games. I think it’s really interesting how video games started out on these arcade machines and are now everywhere. Did you know Pong was one of the first arcade video games? My dad bought this old video game console. It’s a tiny box and you flip a tiny switch and it turns on. It has about 6,000 games on it. My favorite one to play is Tetris. I’m not good at it, but I still like playing it. There have been so many game consoles. PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB is th...

  • People can get hurt when dogs are left loose

    Natalie Williams|Updated Nov 12, 2019

Every day my dad walks our two dogs around the neighborhood. And sometimes I will go with him on my bike. One day we passed by this one house and a big dog was just loose. It was lying down and I didn’t notice it until I passed by. When I looked at him, he showed me his teeth and ran past my bike and across the street. He didn’t hurt me, but it did scare me. I now have a fear of dogs because of that. What if it were a 5-year-old? And they went to pet the dog? What if the dog bit a child? All I’m saying is I hate when peopl...

  • Big and small towns each have their advantages

    Natalie Williams|Updated Nov 5, 2019

This is a comparison of living in a big city vs. a small city. I used to live in Sacramento, Calif., then I moved to Clovis. The cons of a big city are the traffic and crime. It was always crowded in Sacramento, anytime of the day, no matter what. And there were always a lot of car accidents. Also the crime in Sacramento was awful. At my old house, me and my family would see helicopters looking for armed criminals in our neighborhood. But there were, of course, also pros for the big city. We were only two hours away from the...

  • Sounding like a mom - don't vape

    Natalie Williams|Updated Oct 29, 2019

I don’t think vaping is good for the human. I saw a commercial the other day and it said that one JUUL pod has as much nicotine as four cigarettes. Other reports say JUUL has the equivalent amount of nicotine as one pack of cigarettes. Of course I don’t know if that’s true, but I kinda believe it. I know that kids will sometimes vape. I’m not telling anyone, but for people to vape who are not of legal age — it’s not good. I know I sound like a mom or something, but I was raised by parents that told me all of this. I lea...
