MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A good many game watchers tuned in to the Liberty Bowl on Tuesday night expecting to see one team run up the score. And sure enough. Texas Tech folded, spindled and mutilated Mississippi State, 34-7, just the opposite sort of runaway from the one so many were forecasting. Mississippi State came in with the No. 3 passing offense in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and the Red Raiders held the Bulldogs to their lowest point total of the season. Only Alabama...

McGuire, who led Cedar Hill High School to three state championships before joining the staff at Baylor for the past five seasons, on Monday was named the Red Raiders' next head coach. "We are excited for this...

Beard, the Red Raiders’ coach the past five years, resigned last week to become head coach at Texas, his alma mater. In a note posted on his Twitter account, Beard said he wanted to wait a few days to gather his thoughts and express appreciation. “My time at Texas Tech has been more than I could hav...

  • Tech starting season in quieter-than-usual stadium

    Don Williams, Lubbock Avalanche-Journal|Updated Sep 22, 2020

LUBBOCK — When the Big 12 put out the 2020 conference football schedule last October, it shaped up as one of Texas Tech’s most attractive in several years. The Red Raiders were going to have seven home games for the first time since 2009. With the Baylor game no longer played at a neutral site, Tech has five conference games at Jones AT&T Stadium for the first time in the Big 12 era. Arizona would be only the second power-five non-conference opponent to visit Lubbock in five years, and it was Texas’ and Oklahoma’s turn to...
