A retired locomotive is staying at Hillcrest Park for at least the weekend. The 105-year-old locomotive, set to be moved to the Clovis Depot Model Train Museum, was not moved Thursday, and inclement weather should nix any possible weekend movement plans, Clovis Community Development Director Claire Burroughes said. The Clovis-Carver Public Library is one of 17 libraries around the state that will participate in Fast Forward New Mexico, a grant-funded computer and Internet training program. The program will bring eight six-hour courses to the library in September and October. Clovis police arrested two men Monday in connection with a Sept. 18 stabbing. Kenneth Lamar Nash, 24, and Angelo Vargas, 25, are being held at the Curry County jail. Vargas is facing two charges — aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated burglary — and is being held on $35,000 bond, as is Nash, who is charged as an accessory to those crimes, according to a press release from police. We recently lost a Clovis Pioneer baseball player, Ray Bauer, who died at age 93. He came to Clovis to play for the Pioneers, a member of the West Texas/New Mexico League. Ray played for pro teams affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians. I played with Ray from 1947 to 1949. A Houston area school teacher was arrested Friday for child solicitation following an investigation by the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.
