Portales Woman’s Club

Portales Woman’s Club met on May 9 for the final meeting of this club year. President Cami Howl presided. Following the invocation, lunch was served, meeting was called to order, pledges and Collect were recited, treasurer’s report was filed and minutes were approved. Fifteen members, 3 guests were present.

The president recognized Wanda Pettus and Sheryl Borden for perfect attendance for the year. Gaynelle Thomas conducted the new officer installation based on the in-coming president’s theme “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much,” from Helen Keller. New officers were presented with a pair of praying hands as they were installed. The officers for 2018-2019 are: President Amber Hamilton, Civic Chair and First Vice President Cindy Miller, Program Chair and Second Vice Presidents Betsy Chavez and Ronnie Birdsong, House Chair and Third Vice President Jacquelyn Houser, Recording Secretary Sheryl Borden, Corresponding Secretary Cindy Miller, Treasurer Jessica Comacho and Immediate Past President Cami Howl. A new committee appointed by Hamilton will meet to revise the club’s bylaws.

The next meeting will be Sept. 12 at the club building.

Bethel Extension Club

Bethel Extension Club meet May 8 in the McAlister room with 10 members attending.

Joyce Welch and Pat Terry informed members Anna M. Parker received the Dena Dutton Memorial Scholarship at ENMU Campus Union Ballroom April 24.

This fund was endowed in Dutton’s memory by members of the club and members of her family.

Bethel club members sold chances for quilts they had made and quilted by them.

They also went to farm sales and auctions and sold food and drinks.

Bethel members had to raise money for the scholarship.

Ideas for the fair booth in August were discussed.

Refreshments were severed by Pauline Clark and Christine Bates.

Roosevelt County Extension Council

Roosevelt County Extension Association Council met May 7. Thirteen members and one guest, Rod Savage, were present.

Savage presented a program on parliamentary guide and permissible motions.

Culture arts luncheon hosted by Bethel Club was reported. Culture Arts entries from aoll the clubs was 162. Ladies entered their special works such as painting pictures, quilts, crochet, knitting, embroidery paper arts and clothing. A silent auction also brought in $165 to go into the council treasury.

Fair books should be out by middle of June. Sign-up was made for all clubs to work the fair board voting desk in front of the Home Arts building.
