Prosecutors still awaiting decision

CLOVIS — Prosecutors are still hoping today to see a decision expected Monday regarding Nathaniel Jouett’s options for mental health treatment.

That was one of the topics at a hearing all day Friday in Clovis, following which Judge James Hudson of Roswell approved the state’s motion of pre-trial detention for the alleged library shooter but said he would take until Monday to consider defense attorney Stephen Taylor’s motion to have him transferred to the Sequoyah adolescent treatment facility in Albuquerque.

District Attorney Andrea Reeb said she hoped Hudson might also recommend alternatives to Sequoyah, to include having Jouett be evaluated by the county’s Mental Health Resources office and subsequently treated in the Juvenile Detention Center, where he has remained since the Aug. 28 shooting in which he is accused of killing two.

Taylor did not respond Monday evening to a request for comment on the pending decision.
