Man sentenced to 15 days in break-in

CLOVIS — A man was sentenced Friday to 15 days in jail for breaking into Clovis’ Lockwood Elementary almost five years ago, according to a news release from District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

The Sept. 10, 2013, incident at the then-newly opened school went unresolved until a DNA sample matching one from the scene entered the state’s evidence system this year. That new entry followed a 2017 adult felony conviction by the perpetrator, who was a juvenile at the time of the 2013 crime, said the release.

Judge Fred Van Soelen “noted that if the perpetrator had not committed an adult offense, he would not have been caught,” said the release. A restitution hearing soon to be set will determine what damages are owed to the school for the damaged property and stolen electronics.
