1983: Jerry Isler of Grady was named to the Dean's List at Lubbock Christian College for the fall 1982 semester.

Isler was a transfer student from Clarendon Junior College. He was a member of the LCC Chaparral basketball team.

Isler and the other 120 students named to the Dean's List had compiled grade-point averages of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

1973: Sandra Garnett of Clovis was the new Miss Rodeo USA, having been crowned at the International Finals Rodeo in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

A Fort Sumner High School graduate, Garnett, 18, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K.P. Garnett of Clovis.

She was set to be the official representative of the International Rodeo Association for the following year, an honor described in the Clovis News-Journal as "the western version of Miss America."

Garnett was scheduled to spend a week in California training at Universal Studios before returning to classes at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, where she was a freshman.
