WICHITA FALLS, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico women’s basketball team trailed at the end of each quarter Saturday and ultimately fell 73-57 at Midwestern State in a Lone Star Conference matchup that ended the Greyhounds’ win streak at three.
The Hounds (8-7, 4-4 LSC) had also won five of their previous six heading into Saturday. Against Midwestern, though, they were already down 24-17 after one quarter, 47-31 at halftime.
Eastern was within single digits a few times during the fourth quarter, but Midwestern State got it back to double digits, 61-51, with roughly five minutes to go, and it was 63-52 near the four-minute mark as the Mustangs (9-5, 6-2 LSC) were on their way to a decisive win.
Despite the loss, ENMU’s Mikaehla Connor led all scorers with 19 points. She also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Brandi Gomez was the only other Greyhound to hit double digits, scoring 12.
Midwestern State had four double-digit scorers — Jasmine Richardson (15), Whitney Taylor (14), Micheline Mercelita and Hannah Reynolds (13 each).
The Greyhounds will try to get back to winning on Thursday, with a 10 a.m. game against LSC foe Texas A&M-Kingsville at Greyhound Arena. The game is part of an annual cooperative event with area schools with free admission granted to bussed-in students.
