Living Word to ring in 2018 with new building

CLOVIS — After their church was destroyed by fire in October, the Living Word Church of God is preparing to ring in the new year in a new building.

Starting Dec. 31, Living Word will hold services at its new home, 2101 E. 21st St., formerly the location of Christ Advent Church.

Moving into this facility will save Living Word a lot of time, money and aggravation, Associate Pastor Bonetta Hutson said.

“For us it’s a huge blessing in that we don’t have to rebuild because that was going to be very costly and take a very long time,” Hutson said.

Hutson said she is excited the new church will allow Living Word to expand its reach and return some consistency and normalcy to the services it already offers.

“Now we have classrooms where we didn’t have classrooms before,” Hutson said. “We’re eager to be able to start more ministries because now we’ll have the room.”

Living Word’s former home was destroyed by fire on Oct. 10. Per protocol following a church building fire, the state Fire Marshal’s Office and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms investigated the cause of the blaze, which was determined to be faulty wiring.

“They said that it was an electrical short,” Hutson said. “The panel outside evidently had been shorting and every time it rained that was just making it worse, so that’s what happened.”

After the fire Living Word has been temporarily holding services at the Christian Believers Center on Clovis’ Main Street.

“We’re so grateful to (Sistar) Yancy for allowing us to use her building for all of our services, but again we’re so eager to get into this new facility,” Hutson said.

After a tumultuous past couple of months, members of Living Word can now look forward to what the new year will bring in their new home.

“We’re just so excited and our first service being on New Year’s eve, what we always do in our church is we pray in the new year so New Year’s eve evening it’s going to be exciting to pray in the new year in a new church with great expectations of what 2018 is going to bring for us and what we’re going to be able to do,” Hutson said.
